Kattekwaad Yearmix 2011 – by Kobuz.
First of all I’d like to say this is not an attempt to create a ‘best of 2011′. There are just to many tracks I would like to fit in there. Choices need to be made and if I would’ve made this mix another day it could’ve been completely different. But it’s not about what could’ve been, but about what is. And this is it. Enjoy listening!
1: Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)
Love this one, gives me a big smile on my face every time I put it on and the Magician can’t be missed in this list. Maybe this one is not the most original to choose, but hey, it’s not an originality contest here.
2: Aeroplane – Save Me Now
Aeroplane was the first who introduced me with disco in a great danceable dj set afew years ago. Since disco also got important in my own dj sets at the end of this year it was a no-brainer to add this great track.
3: Round Table Knights – Paparussi (L-Vis 1990 & The Neon Dreams Remix)
This is a track I just couldn’t find a spot for in a dj set this year, which is a shame. Close your eyes, turn up your speakers and float away with this great L-Vis 1990 remix.
4: San Serac, Para One, Slice & Soda – Year of the Dragon – L-Vis 1990 ibiza Sunset Remix
Another L-Vis 1990 remix, which I did use on more than one occasion. It can be found in my previous mixtape and was a wonderful track to start with at the So What! Festival.
5: Darkness Falls – The Void (Trentemoller Remix)
Deep, warm, space, great vocal. When I heard this one I was hooked immediately. With the wobbly bassline and deep atmosphere this track can be used on many different occasions.
6: Tex Rec. – Evil Inside Me feat. Gracie – Original
Electro has been my ‘main genre’ the past years, especially during live sets in the clubs. During this year I also got more attracted to techno music, in which this is a great example. It’s pretty basic in terms of dynamics, but with a good sub and the volume loud, it will blow you away.
7: Digitalism – Blitz (Harvard Bass Remix)
Yes, this track was released in 2010, but for me it definitely deserves a spot in this list. I love the combination of techno and electro in this track and the drop after the second break is as phat is it can be. If you’re in the club and stand still on this track, you should get year ears checked out.
8: Mikix The Cat – Girls
My bad, another track from 2010. But hey, got the crowd go nuts several times with this one so it really deserves to be in this mixtape.
9: Eprom – Pipe Dream
I’ve always liked the more aggressive dubstep variations, but the more popular it got, the more dull it became for me. This track from Eprom has his own style and I love the ‘under-water’ kind of sound and surprising synths it has.
10: Beat the Bastardz – Lumberjack (Le Boeuf Remix)
Powerful remix of the Little Globe Records release from Beat the Bastardz. Great to get the crowd going and another track to keep dubstep interesting.
